“Code Switched At Birth” is a new co-headlining stand-up show from comedians Franchesca Ramsey (MTV’s Decoded, Comedy Central’s Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, NAACP award nominee) and Nthenya From Kenya (JFL, CBS’ Comics Unleashed, Netflix Is A Joke Radio). They will each preview their half hours as well as cohost the show together. Nthenya’s is titled “All Them Layers.”
“All Them Layers” showcases Nthenya’s complex upbringing and attempted assimilation into American culture. Always a misfit, “All Them Layers” explores the messiness of being yourself when everyone tries to put you in a box. Not becoming the doctor her parents expected was only her first act of defiance. In this intimate half-hour special, Nthenya pulls back the curtain on the parts of her life she never expected to share: the haunting experience of her brother’s kidnapping, the surreal reality of being an accidental "trad wife," the grit of being a boss, and the hard-won transition from immense grief to radical self-love. It is a candid, funny, and deeply human look at what happens when you stop trying to fit in and start owning every layer of your truth.
